Earn your name.
Gukkit is a social app of short anonymous posts and live little rooms. You start as a number. Post, star, gather in the burrows, and if the community stars you enough, they give you a name.
The feed
Post short. Browse five ways.
Most apps decide what you see. Gukkit gives you five lenses and you pick. No default feed, no quiet algorithm. Try them in the phone.
-
FreshPosts in order, newest first.
-
ChaosPosts in random order.
-
BuriedPosts with the fewest stars first.
-
Small VoicesPosts from accounts with few followers.
-
Slow BurnThe most-starred posts of the past week.
A taste with sample posts. The real feed is weirder.
Six buttons on every post
Reading is quiet. Gukkit is not. Every post wears the same six custom buttons, drawn for Gukkit and nothing else.
Star
One tap of approval. Stars are how names get earned.
Super Star
Its own button, worth three stars. You get one a day, so it means something.
Comment
Say it right there. Comments live on the post, out in the open.
Bookmark
Save it for later. The ribbon turns gold the moment it is saved.
Quote
Lift the post into one of your own. Your words on top, theirs attached, credit intact.
More
The quiet drawer. Copy, mute, block, and report: one tap away on posts, messages, and rooms.
The Warren
Little rooms, dug by critters.
The Warren is the social heart of Gukkit: a hub of live chat rooms called burrows. Anyone can dig a new one, anyone can join one that is already buzzing, and one of them never closes.
Main Burrow
The front room of the Warren. Always open, even at 4 AM, even when nobody is in it. Especially then.
Midnight Snack Club
Snacks, ranked. Defend your favorite.
Critter Fashion Week
Tiny hats. Full confidence.
Plant Parents
One new leaf is big news here.
Slow Sunday
A quiet burrow. Slow talk welcome.
Burrows are dug by users, so burrows follow the rules of the house: every room can be reported, just like every post and every message.
The Nightly Huddle
Every night at 8 PM, the Main Burrow asks one question. It stays sealed until the hour, so nobody can rehearse an answer. Star the ones you love.
What small thing went right today?
The Huddle ends at 9:00 PMVenues
Earn your name, earn a place. A critter the community has named can open a venue: a permanent burrow of their own that never closes, with their name over the door.
Hosted by Marigold · Tea, rain, and slow talk
Hosts get a room, not a throne. The same report button guards a venue as guards everything else.
Earn your name
You cannot name yourself.
That is the whole point.
Everyone arrives anonymous. Write posts worth starring, and the community may decide you have earned a name. Your stars keep score in the open, in a sky only you can see filling up.
37 of 50 stars lit. Every distinct critter who stars you lights one star in your sky. A Super Star shines gold. One critter is always one star, and at fifty your sky is complete.
Arrive a number
You get a random, permanent anon-4821. Never sequential. Never chosen. Yours forever.
Earn 50 starrers
When 50 distinct people have starred your posts, the ceremony unlocks.
37 / 50 distinct starrers
The community decides
24 hours. Anyone who starred you proposes a name. Everyone votes. Highest total wins. Ties go to the earliest proposal.
Take it or leave it
Win the vote and the name is yours, with a Named by the community mark. Or veto it all, silently, and stay anon-4821 by choice. Both are honored.
Super Stars count 3x
Every critter gets one Super Star a day. Land one on a post and it counts triple, and it shines gold in the author’s sky.
Pass it on
A Super Star brings a gift: one extra Super Star, tied with a ribbon, to pass on to a post you love within 24 hours. It is not your daily one. You can hold both, and every pass adds a link to the chain.
Critter Lab
Your face is a critter.
Every account wears a critter. Earn new critters and colors by using Gukkit: posting, starring, quoting, showing up. Nothing in the Lab is for sale. Thirteen new critters and five new colors just landed.

Twelve colors
Your identity
Your critter is your account.
No email. No password. No sign-up form with twelve fields. The critter on your phone is the whole account, and Gukkit is honest about what that means.
Nothing to remember
Your identity lives on your phone, wearing your critter. Open the app and you are you. There is nothing to type and nothing to leak.
Twelve words back in
Back up your identity in Settings and Gukkit hands you a 12-word recovery phrase. Those words, and only those words, bring your critter back on a new phone.
Say it plainly
Uninstalling Gukkit deletes this critter from your phone. Without your 12 words, it cannot come back. We cannot restore it for you, and we would rather tell you that here than surprise you later.
Why the name?
Gukkit is Older Scots for silly.
It turns up in Scots writing around 1500, in the poems of William Dunbar among others, glossed simply as foolish, silly. The best guess at where it came from is gukguk, the old Scots imitation of a cuckoo’s call. A gowk is a cuckoo, and a cuckoo, in the old insult economy, is a fool.
We picked the name for how it sounds. Then we looked it up, and it turned out to mean exactly what the app is: a little bit foolish, on purpose, in public. Some names you choose. This one chose us back.
What we will never sell
Built like a promise.
No default feed
There is no algorithm quietly deciding your day. Pick a lens. Change your mind. It is your eyes.
No bios
Your posts are your bio. Say something worth reading instead of writing a paragraph about yourself.
Anonymous by design
No location, ever. No tracking SDKs. Photos are stripped of metadata before anyone sees them. You are a number until the community says otherwise.
Never for sale
No ads. No data sales. Stars cannot be bought. Names cannot be bought. Ceremonies cannot be bought.
One more, because honesty is the theme: direct messages are direct, not encrypted vaults. We will never dress them up as something they are not.
The doors are open.
